‘‘Spanning sound, video, and text, ‘Automatic Towards’ immerses the viewer into an assemblage of tangled voices and unfinished identities.
Drawing from improvisation, melodrama, surrealism, and text-art, Bryden explores experimental modes of storytelling, inviting viewers to piece together the fragments and allowing the source material to endlessly refract, combine, and connect.
The work exists within a strangely pulsating tension, orbiting between distance / proximity, sincerity / façade, vulnerability / detachment - questioning and obscuring as much as it reveals.
